Last weekend we held our 3rd Annual Garage Sale Fundraiser for Action Two Africa’s Child Sponsorship Program. This program aims at keeping high-risk children from the community of Kiambiu in school throughout the year.
Every year we put out a request to our friends and family to donate used clothes, furniture, household items, etc, and then we hold a garage sale. We are always overwhelmed at how generous people are in their contributions to this cause. My parents are always gracious enough to allow us to use their garage and driveway to hold the sale.
This year, the turnout was much lower than it had been in times past. It was a holiday weekend, and the weather didn’t help. Last year, we were able to raise about $1300. This year, we raised $275, about 20% of last year’s sales.
Regardless, we always view this sale as an opportunity, not only to raise funds, but to spread the word about Action Two Africa, and the work that we are doing in Kiambiu. People stopping by the garage sale are always curious to hear more about the organization, and learn about what we do.
Hopefully we will be able to continue to hold this sale each year, and spread the word about the importance of educating children in Kenya, and around the world.
We’d also like to give a big “Thank you!” to everyone who helped out with this year’s sale through donations, interest, and shopping!
If you have any ideas for us to help make this a more successful venture in the future, please feel free to reach out! We’d love to hear your thoughts!
